How the winner is decided
We photograph a real place kick a split second after the boot, then wipe the ball out of the picture. Find the ball.
Four steps
- 01
We shoot a real kick
We photograph a real place kick and wipe the ball out of the photo.
- 02
The judges mark it
A panel of rugby judges each mark the centre of the ball, separately.
- 03
You mark it
You mark where you think the centre of the ball is.
- 04
Closest wins
The closest mark wins the coin. No draw, no luck.
Why you can trust the result
The judges' mark is fixed and sealed before anyone enters. Here is how.
- Each judge marks the photo alone and never sees the others' marks.
- We take the middle mark of the panel.
- We publish a sealed code of that mark before entries open.
- When the round closes we publish the mark and the code, so anyone can check that nothing moved.
- Nobody who runs Kick for Gold can see the judges' mark before the round closes.
- Staff, judges, the people at the shoot and their families cannot enter.
The sealed code
The seal for this round is published the day entries open. It will appear here.
What if a round doesn't fill?
Every paid round has a minimum number of entries. If it isn't reached by closing time, the round is cancelled and every player chooses either a full refund or credit worth 20% more than they paid.
Every entry has the same chance
Every entry, whatever coin it is for, is judged on the same photo against the same mark, so every entry has the same chance. The closest entry wins the coin it was entered for.
Minted by TRI METALS

TRI METALS mints the coins we award. Which coin a round is played for is announced when the round opens.
